Matter is a universal smart home standard that allows compatible devices from different brands to work together. It helps future-proof your smart home by enabling seamless compatibility across major ecosystems including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.
What do I need to use these downlights with Matter?
Requirements depend on the model you choose. Matter over Thread models require a compatible Matter Controller (smart home hub) and a Thread Border Router. Matter over Wi-Fi models require a compatible Matter Controller and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Both models can also be set up and controlled directly through the Nanoleaf App.
How can I control the Smart Recessed Downlights?

Matter over Thread offers fast response times, low-power mesh networking, and increased reliability with a compatible Thread Border Router, while Matter over Wi-Fi connects directly to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network for simple setup and seamless smart home control.
Can I control multiple downlights together?
Yes. Group multiple Nanoleaf lights together to control colors, brightness, Scenes, schedules, and automations simultaneously using the Nanoleaf App or your preferred Matter-compatible smart home ecosystem.
Can I use these downlights with a traditional dimmer switch?
No. Smart downlights should not be connected to traditional wall dimmer switches because both the light and the dimmer attempt to control brightness. For the best experience, leave the wall switch on and adjust brightness using the Nanoleaf App, voice assistants, or your smart home ecosystem.
Do I need an electrician to install these downlights?
Nanoleaf Smart Recessed Downlights are designed for recessed ceiling installation using spring clips. If you're replacing or installing wired lighting and are unfamiliar with electrical work, we recommend using a qualified electrician and following all local electrical codes.
